History Savudrija - Historical and Cultural Information about Savudrija
The first traces of human presence were found in the area of the lighthouse, and it is confirmed that they come from the time 11 000 years ago. Many findings in the port affirm that the port was during the Roman age a very important stop in maritime trade. During the pier construction were found many remains, and specially interesting are statues of fertility goddess Isis and Roman goddess of Fortune from the 2nd century, which are today kept in a museum in Pula. 'Till 20th century in Savudrija was the main activity agriculture. Surrounding areas of Savudrija kept their specificities in an old editions of smaller villages.
